Mini Camp -
The 49ers have decided to move up mini camp and my thoughts are that Shanahan wants to give the team as much of rest before the start of training camp.
I suspect all the veterans, including Deebo Samuels will report to mini camp. I do not expect Trent Williams, Nick Bosa, George Kittle, Fred Warner and Deebo Samuels to have an active role on the field.
Naturally the attention will be on Samuels, the local media will get an opportunity to gauge the feeling between him and the team.
This will again be great opportunity for Trey Lance to get more reps, especially as the team announced that Jimmy Garopollo is being excused from mini camp. The increased intensity of the sessions, will benefit Trey Lance and also let him get more familiar with the playbook.
It will be interesting to note who starts on the O Line, who takes the reps at Centre.
Other take always will be to see if any of the unrestricted free agents surprise and stand out over the next two days. Shanahan and Lynch both have an eye for talent, so I am sure there will be at least one or two surprise stand out players in the next couple of days.
The key areas for improvement over the course of the next few days will be:
- More reps for Trey Lance;
- Organise the starters on the O Line;
- Improve Special Teams; &
- Consolidate the secondary unit.
If the team can complete the above, avoid any injuries, this phase of the season will be a success.
